“Let’s just call plans what they are: guesses.” – Jason Fried
Let Us Dance
“We did not ask for this room or this music; we were invited in. Therefore, because the dark surrounds us, let us turn our faces toward the light. Let us endure hardship to be grateful for plenty… We did not ask for this room or this music. But because we are here, let us dance.” – Stephen King
Medical Secretary Typos
We all make mistakes and for several medical secretaries, what they typed didn’t quite explain the actual situation…
- Patient has left her white blood cells at another hospital.
- Patient has chest pain if she lies on her left side for over a year.
- Patient had waffles for breakfast and anorexia for lunch.
- Patient was seen in consultation by Dr. Jones, who felt we should sit on the abdomen and I agree.
- The patient refused autopsy.
- She is numb from her toes down.
- She stated that she had been constipated for most of her life until she got a divorce.
- Discharge status: Alive, but without my permission.
- Skin: somewhat pale, but present.
- Patient was found in bed with her power mower.
The Most Important Tasks
“The most valuable tasks you can do each day are often the hardest and most complex. But the payoff and rewards for completing these tasks efficiently can be tremendous. For this reason, you must adamantly refuse to work on tasks in the bottom 80 percent while you still have tasks in the top 20 percent left to be done. Before you begin work, always ask yourself, ‘Is this task in the top 20 percent of my activities or in the bottom 80 percent?’ The hardest part of any important task is getting started on it in the first place. Once you actually begin work on a valuable task, you will be naturally motivated to continue. A part of your mind loves to be busy working on significant tasks that can really make a difference. Your job is to feed this part of your mind continually.” – Brian Tracy
Decision and Implementation
“The value in any decision is in its implementation. You can’t spend money you are ‘going to make someday.’ You can’t enjoy books you only ‘intend to read.’ And you can’t live on memories of ideas you once had. Remember Yoda, the pint-sized Jedi from Star Wars. He told Luke Skywalker, ‘Do, or do not. There is no try.’ They did not call him a Jedi master for nothing.” – Nido Qubein
